Over the course of six professional seasons, Johnson has become the franchise player in Houston. In fact, to many NFL fans, he just might be the lone player that they recognize on the Texans’ roster. He’s earned every bit of that respect as he’s come up with three Pro Bowl selections, 544 catches, and 38 receiving TDs through six full years.
He now plies his trade in the Lone Star State, but Johnson was a born and bred in Miami, Florida. In just three seasons at the University of Miami, Johnson became one of the most impressive receivers in Hurricane history, ranking 5th on the school’s receiving yardage list and third in career TD receptions.
Following his time at the “U,” Johnson was selected as the 3rd-overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He had an immediate impact with 66 catches for nearly 1,000 yards in his rookie season. Overall, he has averaged over 80 receptions (with a high of 115 in 2008) per season. He’s done all of this with little help from a revolving cast of quarterback’s under center.
Johnson’s size and speed combo is mostly unchallenged by any other wide receiver in Houston. He’s yet to carry his team to the playoffs, but don’t blame him – he’s done everything and more to become one of the true studs of the NFL.
