Feel the Brees
Drew Brees is the catalyst for that high-octane offense that they have in New Orleans. Last year, he threw for over 5,000 yards and had 34 touchdowns. In fact, the former Purdue Boilermaker’s yardage totals have been climbing since 2004.
Brees was taken in the 2nd round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Ironically, during the 2001 Heisman Trophy Wards ceremony, Brees and LaDainian Tomlinson joked about wanting to play on the same team. Tomlinson and Brees have been playing football against one another since their early days in high school.
Since leaving San Diego, Brees has been the answer to the Saints’ prayers. New Orleans hasn’t had a franchise quarterback in over a decade (i.e. see Jeff Blake, Aaron Brooks and/or Billy Joe Tolliver).
If his career were to end today, Brees would finish with over 26,000 passing yards and 168 touchdowns. But, Brees is far from finished. He’s also earned many prestigious awards already including 2004’s Comeback Player of the Year and NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2008. It hasn’t been a bad career for a kid who had to wear glasses growing up and is still allergic to dairy, wheat, eggs and gluten.
